Flowers, Tagliatelle Pasta, and Love
“Anthophile (noun): A person who loves flowers”
For Valentine's Day, we aimed for an enjoyable cooking experience that would bring us closer while being relaxed and fun. Handmade pasta brings creativity and teamwork to the kitchen. Kneading, rolling, and cutting the dough create happy moments together. Enjoying a meal made together adds extra joy. Joey took charge of prepping the kitchen, ensuring we had everything we needed at hand. Meanwhile, I ventured into our garden to gather some vibrant strawflowers, adding a touch of natural beauty to our dining setup. The atmosphere was completed with our favorite playlist, creating a cozy ambiance for our cooking adventure.
“Pasta: the art of combining flour, water, and passion into a delicious masterpiece”
Joey's experience in making fresh pasta for five years highlights not only his skill but also the artistry involved in the process. The technique of working with dough requires precision, patience, and a deep understanding of the ingredients. It's fascinating to see how someone can transform semolina flour, water, egg, and salt into pasta. For many, the act of kneading, rolling, and cutting dough becomes a rhythmic practice that connects them to traditions of Italian cuisine, making it feel almost second nature. Joey's talent serves as a reminder of the beauty in handmade foods and the joy they bring to our dining experiences.
Sadly, I don’t have a recipe for you guys as he makes it by eye and feel of the dough. I can share with you the tools he used:
Mixing Bowl: A large bowl to mix the dough ingredients.
Bowl Scraper: Handy for folding and shaping the dough without sticking.
Bench Scraper: Helps to cut the dough
Scale: For measuring ingredients accurately, though he prefers to estimate.
Rolling Pin: Useful for flattening the dough to the desired thickness.
Pastry Wheel: For cutting the edges of the dough.
Pasta Maker: Comes with a variety of attachments to make different types of pasta.
Pasta Drying Rack: To place the pasta while it drys.
These tools can help you create your own version, even if the exact recipe remains a mystery.
I love seeing this man in his happy place. This meal tasted better than any restaurant could have made because it was made not only with skills but with love.
