ABOUT US
Gardener kellie & chefjoey
My name is Kellie. I have been gardening since 2015. Gardening means so many different things to me. First off, being a health care professional by day and gardener at night has given me the stress release I need to decompress. Anyone who works in the healthcare industry can vouch that we can deal with emotionally heavy situations that can weigh on our hearts even when we get home. For an empath like myself, nature puts me at ease and allows me to recalibrate. Gardening emanates happiness and a true appreciation for nature. Secondly, with gardening comes the joys of devouring your own delicious, savory and organic harvest! The benefits of home gardening are getting to grow rare seeds that produce many different varietals of fruits and vegetables that you will never be able to taste from your local grocery store and not to mention the health benefits are exponential! My hopes with this passion project is to inspire and support new backyard gardeners! My journey with gardening has taught and continues to teach me an abundance and I look forward to sharing my knowledge with you!
Hi my name is Joey. I can’t pinpoint when my passion for cooking began, but my earliest and fondest memories of cooking go back to when my grandma would pull up a stool so I could help her in the kitchen. After this, I started cooking for my older sister and I, as my parents were always working. It was then that I quickly started to play with different spices and come up with my own recipes as to avoid eating the same meal every night (even though I still love a good bowl of fideo). Fast forward 25 years later, my passion for cooking continues to grow and I am still doing the same thing for Kellie and I, except now my grocery store is a mere 30 feet away in our backyard. Needless to say, as a culinary school graduate from Le Cordon Bleu and a recent recipient of the Certified Executive Chef Certification (CEC®) from the American Culinary Federation, I have a little bit more knowledge these days in the kitchen than when I was younger. During the days, I manage a kitchen here in Los Angeles, California. When I am not at work, I am at home experimenting with whatever Kellie is growing in our garden. This has led us to making jams, marmalades, pickling, and canning our excess veggies! I also love smoking meats, especially brisket, and am an avid beer connoisseur. Please join us on our journey, I hope to teach you a thing or two in the kitchen! Cheers!
